Learn millinery from Serena in her Nicholas Building workroom in small, fun groups. You will have lots of attention and support with the project you are working on and learn the correct skills and stitches. Learn skills that can be used in different settings.

Serena has taught some of Melbourne’s leading milliners at Kangan Institute & now you can access the skills she has taught to those students.

Fedora Fundamentals

Dates– Commencing on the 11th of June and then on 18th June, 25th June & the 2nd of July.

Times- 6pm-9pm

Description-This class is a foundation level class with the end result being a felt fedora which you can take away to wear yourself or give to a dear friend. You will learn the correct way to do the following steps to arrive at the best possible outcome. You will also have access to a support set of videos to help you recall what you learn in the class.

You will learn

  • about the different felts available for blocking and you can choose one for yourself to work with.
  • about the different blocks and how they are used to create your hat.
  • how to measure your head and match it to the blocks you will have to choose from.
  • how to steam and shape your felt hat body to create your desired shape.
  • how to stiffen your hat to help it hold its shape over time.
  • the stitches you need to attach the inner hat band.
  • how to make a lining.
  • the trims and finishings suitable for a winter hat.
  • how to present your hat and store it so it will last. 

This session will be starting on Tuesday 11th June and running every Tuesday evening for four weeks

On enrolment you will receive a materials list and suppliers or you can source a limited range of materials at cost price from my studio.

This class is limited to 4 participants so you will get plenty of attention, you will be in a working studio and surrounded with millinery paraphernalia. I am looking forward to this one, it will be informative and fun.
