Sun hat Essentials

Join us for a 6 week night class in my Nicholas Building studio to create a sun hat fully trimmed and ready to wear.

Dates- 30/7/2024- 3/9/2024

Times- 6.00-9.00pm

Description-Whether you have made a hat or two before or are a complete beginner this could be the class for you. You will leave the class with a tailor-made sun hat and a whole lot of new millinery skills. With an emphasis on learning real skills in a relaxed environment this class is sure to fill quickly.

You will leave with at least one trimmed summer hat in your unique style. Back up videos will be provided.

You will learn

• about the design considerations when making a summer straw hat.
• about the different straws available for blocking and you can choose one for yourself to work with.
• about the different blocks and how they are used to create your hat.
• how to measure your head and match it to the blocks you will have to choose from.
• how to dampen and shape your straw hat body to create your desired shape.
• how to stiffen your hat to help it hold its shape over time.
• the stitches you need to attach the inner hat band and assemble your hat.
• how to make a lining.
• the trims and finishings suitable for a summer hat & how to make them.
• how to present your hat and store it so it will last.

On enrolment you will receive a materials list and suppliers or you can source a limited range of materials at cost price from my studio.
